In a statement issued on Thursday, the authority highlighted the importance of adhering to speed limits, avoiding drunk driving, and managing fatigue to prevent accidents.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has called on all motorists to exercise caution during the Easter holidays, emphasizing that safety should be a top priority on the roads.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the authority highlighted the importance of adhering to speed limits, avoiding drunk driving, and managing fatigue to prevent accidents.

“Fellow motorists, as we commemorate this Easter season, I urge every driver and passenger to prioritize safety on our roads,” said the NTSA Director General.

He added that the authority, in close collaboration with the National Police Service, has intensified enforcement operations nationwide to reduce fatal crashes during this festive period.

The NTSA highlighted key road safety concerns, including speeding, drunk driving, and driver fatigue. “Speeding remains a leading cause of death—slow down and adhere to posted limits,” the DG warned.

On drunk driving, he cautioned: “If you have consumed alcohol, do not get behind the wheel.” He also stressed the dangers of fatigue, urging drivers to “rest adequately before long journeys and take breaks every two hours.”

Other risky behaviors, such as dangerous overtaking, weaving, and failure to maintain lane discipline, were also flagged as threats to road safety.

Motorists whose vehicles break down are advised to park safely off the road and place warning triangles at a sufficient distance.

The NTSA further warned that unroadworthy vehicles, including those with defective brakes, worn-out tyres, or faulty lighting, will be impounded immediately.

To enforce these measures, traffic enforcement officers, speed cameras, and sobriety checkpoints will be deployed at strategic points across the country.

The National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday urged the public to remain vigilant and take personal responsibility for safety as the country heads into the Easter holiday, citing heightened risks due to increased travel, social gatherings, and the ongoing rainy season.

In a statement on March 31, 2026, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga emphasized that while security agencies have scaled up nationwide operations, public cooperation is critical in preventing accidents and maintaining order.

Nyaga highlighted risky behaviors such as speeding, drunk driving, distracted driving, overloading, and poor vehicle maintenance as key contributors to road accidents.

Pedestrians were also advised to use designated crossing points and stay alert. The police have deployed additional personnel and resources in high-traffic areas, including shopping malls, transport hubs, markets, and entertainment venues, to enhance surveillance and deter crime.
